Braiding

Braiding horsehair is how most of our jewelry and some of our tack and hatbands are created.  We start with raw horsehair.  Ten individual hairs of the selected color are "pulled" from the bundle and twisted to create a "pull."  Pulls are then bundled into increments of 4 to create square braids.  We prefer to braid with either 12 or 16 pulls.  Individual braids are then sewn together to create the desired product.  Then ends are securely glued and covered with a horsehair knot, which is sewn with a single pull.
